Submit Art/Photos for JFTW 2018

Art & photo submissions are open until
midnight on 20th January 2018

Every year, Just Fur The Weekend will produce a full colour convention book as a useful guide and memento of the event.

If you would like to feature something in the upcoming conbook, be it a piece of artwork or a photo from a previous JFTW, then submit it to us by 20/01/2018 using the form below.

Before you do though, please take a moment to read the submission guidelines to give your work the best possible chance to be included.

Submission Guidelines
(Please Read Before Submitting!)

I know, I know; reading. Listen up though, this stuff is important…

  • You don’t have to be an attendee

Anyone can submit for the conbook!

  • Draw What You Like! (Within Reason)

Drawings can be of anything, so long as they are Safe For Work (that means no sexually explicit artwork, sorry!), and (ideally) suit the convention theme.

We love pictures of our mascot, Favian Fox, but are just as open to an original character.

  • Be sure to proof-read your work

Check for any spelling or grammar issues before you submit. If we spot any errors, your work, however nice, may be pulled from the final book.

  • There’s no guarantee your work will be published

Unfortunately our conbook is rather small, so space is limited.
However we may post some of the top picks on our website! (with full attribution, of course)

  • We can’t notify you if your work is picked

We can’t promise to let you know if you’re in the book or send final proofs of the layout, as work on the conbook may continue right up until it is sent to print.

  • We publish under a Creative Commons license

All artworks and photos used in the conbook are published under the Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 2.0 UK License. By submitting files to us, you agree to let us publish that work under that license too.

In simple terms, this means we agree not to sell your work or to modify it in a way that makes in unrecognisable as your work, as well as providing a credit for the work in the conbook.

Dos & Don’ts

Image Preparation Guidelines

  • DO: Send CMYK files

We can take files in RGB, but they will have to be converted to CMYK and the colours may not come out exactly the way you intended.
PNG’s don’t support CMYK, so if you want to send an image with a transparent background, please send them in PSD format if possible.

  • DON’T: Send Sketches

A sketchy drawing style may be ok if it fits the style of the piece, but we’d prefer clean, finished artwork whenever possible.

  • DO: Send us transparent art

We don’t have lot of space to dedicate pages purely to art, so most of the time artwork and content have to share space.
Art with a transparent background is much easier to fit onto pages, so you have a much better chance of your work being included.

  • DON’T: Make the images too small

The conbook is A5 in size, so a full page illustration is 148 x 210mm (portrait) plus 3mm bleed (cropping area) around the edges, for a total of 154 x 216mm or 1819 x 2551 pixels at 300 dpi.
Any hand-drawn images should ideally be scanned at 300 dpi.

This is the minimum size you should work at, though you can provide larger, higher quality images. Please try to stick to International paper standard sizes (A5, A4, A3, etc.) plus 3mm bleed, and also bear in mind the size limit of the files that can be sent through our web form is 50mb.

If a larger, higher quality version of your file is available but you are unable to send it via the web form, please mention that you have it in the image description, as we may potentially contact you and arrange to transfer the file by different means.

  • DO: Double-check your details

Chances are good there won’t be any contact once you’ve sent your images off, so be sure to check that everything is just the way you want it, including the name/fur name, artwork/photo title, and website/gallery address, as it’ll be published as-is, and it would be a shame for you to miss out on recognition because of a typo!

Also, please be sure to provide us with an email address you actually check – if for any reason we need to contact you regarding your submission, we may not be able to wait for weeks for you to get around to reading your mail.

  • DON’T: Send obscure file formats

We only accept a few different types of file format.
The webform won’t actually allow you to send any un-approved file types, but just so you know before you get ready to send us that .SAI or .BMP, these are the formats we accept:

.JPG, .PNG, .TIFF, .PDF, & .PSD
  • DO: Try and fit this years theme!

As mentioned above, images submitted can be of virtually anything (within reason), but we would especially appreciate any artwork related to our theme.
Themed artwork is more likely to be used, as it may be difficult to fit, for example, a futuristic character riding a spaceship or a sword wielding knight into a steampunk themed conbook.
If you’d like to know more about this years theme, click here.

  • DON’T: Send in artwork or photos belonging to someone else

We may check that images sent to us were actually made by you.

If you choose to submit an older piece of work that you have already posted somewhere online, that’s fine (though we would much prefer original artwork!), but please be sure to supply the name you have posted that work under, as otherwise that may lead to your work not being accepted.

Also, when sending in photos involving other people, it can be polite to ask if they are ok with potentially being included in the conbook before submitting the image.

If you have any problems submitting your file or have any questions about the above, please contact:
